Widows

US Weekly - - US MUSTS -

This enthralling heist thriller kills it on every level. Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez and Elizabeth Debicki are widows who just lost their husbands in a high-stakes robbery gone horribly wrong and, along with a gung-ho outsider (Cynthia Erivo), decide to finish the job. The impressive cast — which also includes Liam Neeson, Daniel Kaluuya, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall and Brian Tyree Henry — has never been better. (Kaluuya makes his character so cold-blooded, the evil suburban family from Get Out would be terrified to go near him.) The engrossing action rarely lets up, starting with a dazzling opening sequence. As for the twisty story? Expect nothing less than taut excellence from Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn, who co-penned the screenplay with 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen.

This holiday season, revenge is a dish best served supercharged and sizzling hot. MARA REINSTEIN, MARAMOVIES.COM

The women “riselike a phoenix from the ashes,” says Davis. (Inset, costars Kaluuya, left, and Henry.)
