For Ted Cruz, principled stand or political suicide?

- LETTERS LETTERS@ USATODAY. COM

With his deliberate non- endorsement of

Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz was exercising his right to free speech at the Republican convention. Thank goodness for the First Amendment. My concern is what may happen to our free speech should Trump be elected. Would it be considered a crime to speak unfavorably about him? If he’s is elected, we’ll find out. JoAnn Lee Frank Clearwater, Fla.

Cruz just can’t seem to understand he is not

still running for president. When he spoke at the convention, he only shoved his foot further into his mouth. His mantra of always doing what he said he would do rings hollow since he signed the pledge to support whatever candidate won the nomination. Truly, politics brings out the best in some and the very worst in others. Larry Palmer Norco, Calif.
