PAR­ENTS OF SICK BRI­TISH BABY RE­TURN TO COURT

The par­ents of Char­lie Gard, the ter­mi­nally ill Bri­tish baby at the cen­ter of a trans- At­lantic ap­peal re­turned to a court here Thurs­day in a re­newed ef­fort to keep their son alive.

Judge Nicholas Fran­cis on Mon­day gave the 11- month- old’s par­ents Chris Gard and Con­nie Yates 48 hours to present new ev­i­dence that Char­lie should re­ceive ex­per­i­men­tal treat­ment in the United States or an­other coun­try.

Char­lie suf­fers from a rare in­cur­able con­di­tion called mi­to­chon­drial de­ple­tion syn­drome. He has brain damage, blind and deaf and can­not breathe with­out a ven­ti­la­tor.
