Green Bay Packers

Questions at inside linebacker persist, and defensive line depth for the first four weeks without suspended DE Mike Pennel is a concern. But the arrow seems to be pointing up on coordinator

Dom Capers’ defense. The Packers have four takeaways in two games and limited the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders to a combined 4.0 yards a play and 23 total points.

The secondary and outside linebackers look strong. Secondyear cornerbacks Randall Damarious

and Quinten Rollins continue to flash playmaking ability and position flexibility. Randall picked off a pass against Oakland, and both players are being used inside and outside. Outside, Datone Jones’ ascent should allow Capers to continue choosing his spots with Julius Peppers, 36, a strong candidate to kick inside in rush packages. That adds options opposite Clay Matthews — whether it’s Jones, Nick Perry, Jayrone Elliott or newcomers Kyler Fackrell or Lerentee McCray — to continue ratcheting up pressure for a unit that finished fifth in sack percentage. Rookie watch: With QB Aaron Rodgers getting the first two preseason games off and backup Brett Hundley dealing with an ankle injury, undrafted passers Joe Callahan and Marquise Williams have had ample opportunities to build their practice squad cases. Callahan has shown preparedness, but Williams has a long way to go. … Fifth-round WR Trevor Davis needs to add strength, but he has speed. He’s getting chances on special teams. Noteworthy: With inside linebacker remaining unsettled, Carl Bradford is building an

interesting case for a roster spot by leading the group in tackles while showing vast improvement over his first two camps. … RB

Eddie Lacy will have to sustain his form, on and off the field, but the early preseason returns — 13 carries for 69 yards (5.3 yards a carry) — are promising.
