Jorge Alfaro, Phillies

During a season in which some Phillies prospects stagnated or got hurt, 23-year-old Alfaro shot forward to become the catcher of the future. That future could be as soon as next year, after Alfaro got a September call-up to show what he could do. Scouts are calling him a potential All-Star, although he’ll need to continue working on his defense and game-calling. Alfaro can hit — he had a .783 on-base-plus-slugging percentage with Class AA Reading (Pa.) — and has a strong arm. Alfaro joined the Phillies in the trade that sent ace left-hander Cole Hamels to the Texas Rangers last year.
