The A’s hoped that Kendall Graveman’s sore shoulder was minor and shortstop Marcus Semien’s right wrist was only bruised, but both injuries proved worse than expected.

Graveman was put on the disabled list Monday although the A’s don’t expect him to miss more than one start. But Semien figures to be out for several months after X-rays revealed a wrist fracture that was scheduled for surgery.

Graveman won his first two starts but had to exit his April 14 outing after five innings because he couldn’t get loose. He reported improvement within several days and was expected to resume throwing this week.

“He just wasn’t 100%, and it’s not worth the risk,” manager Bob

Melvin said. No. 1 starter Sonny Gray (back muscle) is on track to return early next month.

Semien had an 0-for-15 skid and has yet to homer this year after hitting 27 last season. The A’s designated Adam Rosales and Chad Pinder to replace him but declined to call up prized prospect Franklin Barreto.

In response to fans’ suggestions, the tarps that covered the top deck at Oakland Coliseum were removed. The A’s announced that seats there will cost $15, and half of the proceeds will be donated to Oakland Promise, an initiative that aims to triple the number of college graduates from the city in the next decade.
