LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
GM Tom Telesco got terrific bargains on Swiss Army-knife playmakers in the first two rounds before addressing a shaky run defense in Round 3. Including White, the Chargers added four major defensive contributors while also finding depth up front with Quessenberry. They could have taken a flyer on an heir to QB Philip Rivers, but this is a great class.
Uchenna Nwosu was a great value at 48. He’s not an elite pure pass rusher, but the instinctive linebacker has a knack for swatting passes and is also very comfortable off the ball and in coverage. Derwin James was a great value pick as well.
Derwin James was expected by many to go in the top 10 but fell in Los Angeles’ lap at 17. He’s one of the best athletes in the draft — some have called him a more athletic Kam Chancellor — and could be an absolute star in Gus Bradley’s Cover-3 defense.
