Storyline of the week
Cursed: The Ravens nearly made it through the preseason healthy, but injuries struck them in a big way during the past week. DT Willie Henry (hernia surgery), TE Hayden Hurst (stress fracture in his foot) and S DeShon Elliott (broken forearm) suffered injuries that will carry into the regular season. Adding to the growing list of absences, CB Jimmy Smith was suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Elliott, who was hurt during the victory against the Dolphins, had been playing well all preseason, showing flashes on defense, flying around and hitting players and playing a role on special teams.
With roster decisions due Sept. 1, WR Jaleel Scott has disappeared from training camp practices and preseason games. Even though he was drafted in the fourth round, Scott is far from a lock to make the 53-man roster and needs to show quickly why he’s deserving of landing a spot.
