Storyline of the week

Smiles for Myles: DE Myles Garrett, the 2017 No. 1 overall pick, had two sacks, including a safety, in a 5-0 win against the Eagles. Garrett dominated Philadelphia’s blockers, rushed several throws and created havoc. He has been outstanding throughout training camp and the preseason, finally healthy and hungry to join the league’s elite at his position. With DE Emmanuel Ogbah playing well on the other side, the Browns could have one of the top passrushing combinations in 2018.

Rookie watch

LB Genard Avery made a splash against the Eagles. The fifth-rounder from Memphis recorded a strip sack of QB Nick Foles and showed the ability to be disruptive from the edge. Avery has thrived as a pass rusher in the preseason, often playing as a rush end more than an off-ball linebacker. He did suffer a hip injury in the game and might be kept out through the regular-season opener Sept. 9.
