Storyline of the week
No mistake about it: QB Deshaun Watson rolled to his right on secondand-10 from the Texans’ 37-yard line and heaved a deep ball for WR Bruce Ellington to evade a sack. The Rams intercepted Watson’s throw, but the second-year passer insisted the decision was no error. “I wouldn’t call it a mistake,” he said. “It was a learning lesson, try to take a chance with one of my receivers and, if you look at it in the big picture, treat it like a punt.” Watson went 3-for-6 for 15 yards in the game.
Undrafted WR Vyncint Smith is making his case to make the Texans. The Limestone College product has caught three passes for 86 yards and a touchdown in three preseason games. The 6-3, 195-pound wideout has a better chance to make the roster on special teams, where he has registered one tackle. If Smith doesn’t make the final 53-man roster, he could become an intriguing member of the practice squad.
