Storyline of the week
Progress from Keenum: After turning in underwhelming performances in the Broncos’ first two preseason games, QB Case Keenum looked sharp in a 29-17 win against the Redskins. Keenum went 12-for-18 for 148 yards, posting a 91.9 passer rating. Keenum had no touchdown passes, but he did lead three scoring drives — RB Royce Freeman and WR Emmanuel Sanders rushed for touchdowns and Brandon McManus converted a 50-yard field goal as Denver’s starters outscored Washington’s starters 17-3 in the first half. And the first-team offense didn’t turn the ball over. “That’s key,” coach Vance Joseph said. “More games are lost than won in this league, so if you take care of the ball, you have a chance to win each week.”
CB Isaac Yiadom drew praise from the coaching staff in training camp, but he has struggled during preseason. The third-round pick likely will be fourth on the depth chart behind Chris Harris, Bradley Roby and Tramaine Brock.
