Storyline of the week
Beckham signed: The Giants and star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. ended months of speculation when they agreed Aug. 27 to a five-year, $95 million extension with $65 million guaranteed. The deal makes Beckham the highestpaid wide receiver in NFL history. The guaranteed money is the third highest in the league behind Atlanta QB Matt Ryan ($94.5M) and Minnesota QB Kirk Cousins ($84M). Beckham has long maintained faith that a deal would get done before the start of the regular season and that he had no intention on holding out. That maturity helped facilitate this deal, which will no longer be a distraction for the Giants.
Although RB Saquon Barkley has stolen New York’s rookie spotlight, Robert Martin, an undrafted player out of Rutgers, is pushing for a roster spot. He has gained 86 yards on 12 carries (7.2 average) and a TD in the preseason and could secure his spot this week against New England.
