TONIGHT ON TV

THE MINDY PROJECT HULU

Mindy Kaling ’s canceled Fox comedy gets new life on Hulu, which starts streaming the fourth season’s first episode tonight. One, though, is all you get for now: Unlike other streaming services, Hulu is releasing new

Mindy episodes weekly rather than dumping them all at once.

THE BASTARD EXECUTIONER

FX, 10 ET/PT

When you give a network a very successful show, what you often get in return is the chance to do another show that, on the surface, might seem like an odd fit. Which may explain why we’re getting this Welsh-set medieval drama from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter that mixes

Anarchy’s brutality and violence (FX calls the show “bloodsoaked,” which apparently now is a compliment) with mystics, swordplay and court politics. Or maybe it’s just FX’s desire for its own Game of Thrones. Life is short and the list of TV choices is increasingly lengthy, but if any of that sounds appealing to you, have at it.

BEST TIME EVER WITH NEIL PATRICK HARRIS

NBC, 10 ET/PT

NBC gets an early start on fall with one of the season’s more ambitious experiments, a live variety/game show based on a British series. Reese Witherspoon is the first guest on a series that, if it succeeds, could breathe new life into a genre long left for dead.
