Want to grow your team’s bandwagon? Make pitch

-

Having grown up in New York surrounded by all the pro teams a die-hard sports fan could want, I never jumped on the college football bandwagon.

Now I’ve asked the Internet for assistance to find a program to root for and write about. The requirements? A non-major, lesser-known team that doesn’t get much national attention. Along the way, I’ll also hopefully learn what makes us sports fans in the first place.

After one day, here are five fan suggestions I’ve received on Facebook and Twitter:

1. Chattanooga: A die-hard noted the Mocs had scored 100 points in two games with a highpowered offense.

2. Bucknell: The Bison have history on their side, having won the first Orange Bowl in 1935.

3. Arkansas Tech: The fan’s pitch? They’re called the Wonder Boys.

4. Rutgers: “Not a powerhouse,” said a Twitter user. “Maybe you can help make that change?”

5. Cincinnati: The Bearcats have a huge game against Houston on Thursday.

Do you have a suggestion for me?

You can submit it by searching for usatodayftw on Facebook or @bycharlescurtis on Twitter.
