ANOTHER SHAKE-UP FOR JETS

-

Last month, New York Jets coach

Todd Bowles said the team’s goal was to contend for a Super Bowl in 2017. Apparently, the plan is to do it without any talented veterans. The Jets will release or trade wide receiver Eric

Decker in the coming days, according to ESPN. The news came just hours after the Jets released veteran linebacker David Harris after he and the team could not reach an agreement on a pay cut. After the Jets cut Harris, Bowles

said he wasn’t sure if the Jets had also tried to reduce Decker’s salary. “I coach him because he’s on the team, and Deck is a good player,” Bowles said. “I don’t deal with the money part of it, so I couldn’t answer those questions.” By cutting Decker, the Jets will save $7.5 million in salary cap space. They saved $6.5 million in space by cutting Harris earlier Tuesday. The Jets also have moved on from veterans Darrelle Revis,

Nick Mangold and Brandon Marshall this offseason.

Detroit Lions left tackle Taylor Decker had shoulder surgery Monday for an injury he suffered last week and will miss at least the rest of the team’s offseason program. Lions coach Jim

Caldwell declined to put a timetable on Decker’s return, but he said he does not think the injury will cost Decker the entire 2017 season. Decker, the 16th pick of last year’s draft out of Ohio State, played every offensive snap as a rookie and performed well against some of the NFL’s best pass rushers.
