NPS is more than just parks
The National Park Service covers more than just landmark parks such as Yellowstone and Yosemite. As an agency of the Department of the Interior, the Park Service also manages many monuments and memorials, as well as other natural and historical sites.
2016 marked the 100th anniversary of the Park Service, and the public celebrated by visiting sites in record numbers. More than 330 million people experienced the country’s natural beauty and rich history at 417 parks, historical sites, battlefields, seashores and recreation areas last year.
