REP. SCALISE LEAVES HOSPITAL SIX WEEKS AFTER SHOOTING
Rep. Steve Scalise was discharged from a Washington, D.C., hospital on Tuesday, six weeks after a gunman shot him and others during a baseball practice for Republican lawmakers.
Scalise’s office said he was discharged from MedStar Washington Hospital Center and will now begin “intensive inpatient rehabilitation.”
“He is in good spirits and is looking forward to his return to work once he completes rehabilitation,” his office said in a statement.
The Louisiana Republican had been in and out of the hospital’s intensive care unit since the June 14 shooting in which James Hodgkinson opened fire on an Alexandria, Va., baseball field. Law enforcement officers returned fire, killing Hodgkinson, 66.
Five people were injured in total. Scalise was shot in the hip, which caused damage to his bones, blood vessels and internal organs.
