Ringo Starr’s and Paul McCartney’s ‘We’re On the Road Again’
Two years in the making, Ringo Starr’s 19th studio album, Give More Love, arrives Sept. 15 stacked with guests, including Peter Frampton and Jeff Lynne. The aptly titled We’re On The
Road Again, a new track that Starr shared this week, features two more all-star collaborators: Eagles guitarist (and Starr’s brother-inlaw) Joe Walsh, and a certain former bandmate — Paul McCartney. We’re On The Road Again, among several Starr/McCartney collaborations on the album, is not a cover of Willie Nelson’s or Canned Heat’s classic tracks of similar titles. Instead, the song follows a generic classic-rock formula that gets its charm from Starr’s endearingly literal songwriting, featuring couplets like “Got up this mornin,’ packed my bags, headed for the studio to finish this track” and “We play really tight, we play really loud / We’re gonna kick (expletive) in front of the crowd.” Classic Ringo.
