Who’s paying for the single-payer system?

Amid proposals repeal the Affordable Care Act, Sen. Bernie Sanders and 16 others introduced the Medicare for All Act of 2017, which would transition the U.S. health care system to single-payer.

My issue with Sanders’ proposal is the dishonesty he spews on the cost of it. He pretends there are easy solutions that will not impact most folks. The math does not work without huge taxes increases on us all.

I suspect many Sanders supporters will change their tune once they realize it involves sacrifice from us all. Carl Allenburg

Wake up, America! A singlepayer health care system is the only rational option. If other countries in the world have single-payer systems, why can’t we? Valerie Higbie

Let’s all have the most inefficient managers in the world run one of the largest, and most important, systems in the country so we can have lousy medical coverage and service like they do in Canada.

Sanders, you’re ignorant. The medical fraud would be epic and our service dismal. Dan Krohn The U.S. is lagging behind on health care, plain and simple. Angalee Wilson

I have been paying my share into Medicare since I was 15 years-old. I am now five years away from getting my piece of the pie. All of a sudden I’m going to allow the game to be changed, and everyone gets it for free? I don’t think so!

Before members of Congress can decide on a health plan, they need to decide if national health care is something our country should have. If not, then they just repeal Obamacare and they’re done. If yes, then they need to decide on a goal. Is it to create a quality, comprehensive health care system that everyone can afford? Or is it just to repeal the ACA and replace it with anything their voters will find acceptable? Making these two decisions first will eliminate the trial-and-error process they‘re using now, which is just delaying any resolution.

We asked our followers their thoughts on a singlepayer health care system for the U.S. and if it would work.

A single-payer health care system will turn into another Ponzi scheme like Social Security. @ExtremeCynic

We, as Americans, must adopt a single-payer system. There are plenty of other countries that are doing it successfully; we should be able to replicate. @BAC2Think

No! Government should not be involved in our medical affairs. The second Congress gets control of that, we lose all freedom. @Lenman53

I don’t know all the logistics, but it seems like a better way. We pay one way or the other, either premiums or taxes. @ReIndiAnnaJones

Mostly everything that the government runs is a bust. No single-payer health care. @Tree417711
