GROUPS FILE LAWSUIT TO PRESERVE DACA
Immigrant rights groups on Thursday sued the Trump administration over its move to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which protects young people who were brought to the U.S. illegally.
CASA de Maryland, along with eight other groups and more than a dozen individuals, filed suit in a Maryland federal court against President Trump, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and several government agencies. The lawsuit argues the termination of DACA didn’t follow required procedures and discriminates against Mexicans and Central Americans.
Also, Thursday was the final day for young immigrants to renew their permits under the DACA program.
A spokesman from the Department of Homeland Security said the agency does not comment on pending litigation.
