Warm (or tear) up with Pixar’s best

- Kelly Lawler

A new Pixar movie is out, which means it’s time for gorgeous animation, laughter and (probably) tears.

Coco, the latest from the animation studio, is in theaters now, telling the story of a Mexican boy, Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez), who is obsessed with music and ends up taking an adventure in the Land of the Dead. It’s the kind of colorful, heart-warming and family-oriented story we’re used to seeing from Pixar.

But if one Pixar film is not enough for you, fear not. We picked out the two Pixar movies available now to stream on a subscription service, plus three of our favorites available to rent or buy. BYO tissues.

If you love Ellen DeGeneres: Finding Dory

If you want to have a double feature, you’ll have to rent or buy Finding Nemo, but the equally enjoyable second film is available on Netflix. The sequel shifts its focus to Dory (the always entertaining Ellen DeGeneres) as the forgetful fish searches for her family. Stream it on Netflix.

If you are in the mood for romance: WALL-E

Pixar’s most romantic film is, in fact, one about two robots in a distant future when humanity has used up Earth’s resources. The story of WALL-E and EVE is beautiful and gentle, a love story between two robots that feels tangibly real. The rest of the film — from the gorgeous silent opening scenes to the action-packed climax — is just gravy. Stream it on Starz.

If you want to sob about family: Up

This spectacular film is our favorite in the Pixar canon, and much of the credit to its success goes to its heartbreaking opening sequence. Pixar manages to sum up the course of two lives in just a few minutes, bringing the audience on Carl and Ellie’s journey viscerally. The subsequent adventure is as unexpected and delightful to the audience as it is to Carl. Rent it on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu or YouTube.

If you want to sob about emotions: Inside Out

For many fans, the feelingscentric 2015 film is the ultimate Pixar movie. By going inside the mind of a girl dealing with a move from the Midwest to California, the film looks at what makes us joyful, angry, disgust- ed, scared and sad, with the tearjerking moral that it’s OK to feel sad sometimes. Inside Out is made by the powerful voice performances from Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith ( The

Office) as Joy and Sadness. Rent or buy it on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu or YouTube.

If you love superheroes: The Incredibles

While Wonder Woman, Batman and the rest of the Justice

League are moodily fighting villains in the latest big-budget superhero blockbuster, consider revisiting Pixar’s version of a super-team-up. Part family comedy, part homage to the Fantastic Four, The Incredibles is one of the best Pixar films and one of the best superhero films of the past 25 years. Rent it on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu or YouTube.
