Dropping in via video

What you can do, just like on the Show, is make video calls and “drop in” unannounced for a video chat with friends or family who have their own Spots or Shows. And yes, you’ll need their permission.

One of the most useful features is also one of the simplest: turning Echo Spot into a smart alarm clock. An Echo Dot previously served this purpose in my house, but the Spot works better, if only because without a screen on the Dot, you had to ask Alexa to say the time out loud. With Spot, you can glance over to see the clock face.

As always you’re at the mercy of having a good Wi-Fi connection.

Echo Spot is the second Echo that is meant to be seen as well as heard. Only for now I wish there was more and better things to watch, with video that is properly formatted to take advantage of the smaller display.
