RB Love returning to Stanford

Stanford running back Bryce Love announced on Twitter he will return for his senior season. Love, the Heisman Trophy runner-up in 2017, will be a favorite to win the 2018 award. He was second in the nation in rushing last season with 2,118 yards. His 8.1 yards per rush in 2017 set a Football Bowl Subdivisio­n record.

❚ Arizona’s new football coach Kevin

Sumlin’s proposed contract will be worth $14.5 million in base salary over five years. The former coach at Texas A&M will get $2 million a year for his first two years, increasing to $3.5 million a year in years three through five. The 53-year-old also likely will be eligible for incentive pay.

❚ Notre Dame football coach Brian

Kelly has dismissed four players from the program, The Indianapol­is Star reported. A team spokesman said juniors Kevin Stepherson, a wide receiver, and Brandon Tiassum, a defensive tackle, and sophomore running backs Deon

McIntosh and C.J. Holmes will no longer play. Stepherson and Holmes were suspended indefinite­ly before the Citrus Bowl after they were arrested in a shopliftin­g case while McIntosh was sent home for a violation of team rules. Stepherson was charged separately with possession of marijuana, speeding and driving without a valid driver’s license the day before his shopliftin­g arrest. Kelly never publicly addressed the situation regarding Tiassum.
