CON­SUMER PRICES RISE TO HIGH­EST RATE SINCE 2012

U.S. con­sumer prices rose in May from

2.6 per­cent to 2.8 per­cent, the La­bor Depart­ment re­ported Tues­day. The in­crease in the con­sumer price in­dex marks the fastest an­nual pace of growth for in­fla­tion since Fe­bru­ary

2012. Surg­ing gaso­line prices are mainly re­spon­si­ble for the in­crease, ris­ing by 1.7 per­cent in May and by

21.8 per­cent over the past year.
