THE ROLLING STONES
You can’t always get what you want, but the Rolling Stones definitely want President Donald Trump to quit using their songs at his campaign rallies. The group announced Sunday that their legal team is working with music rights organization BMI to compel Trump to cease and desist: “Unauthorized use of (Stones) songs will constitute a breach of its licensing agreement,” says a statement sent to USA TODAY by the band’s representative Amal Mokhtar. “If Donald Trump disregards the exclusion and persists, then he would face a lawsuit.” The Stones complained in 2016 about Trump’s use of their music, and the campaign played 1969’s “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” again at the close of Trump’s recent controversial rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Neil Young and the family of Tom Petty also have objected to the use of their music at Trump events.
