Get caught up, before they’re back with more

USA TODAY Weekend Extra - - LIFE - Kelly Lawler

In addition to tans and beach time, summer is a surprisingly great time for TV these days. ❚ As the weather gets warmer and your air conditioning gets more inviting, it’s the perfect time to catch up on some great summer series before they return in the coming months. We rounded up five series that you should check out if you’ve never seen them, or maybe re-watch if you have.

If you love the weird and wonderful Sense8

If you missed the cult sci-fi show about a psychically connected group of people all over the world, you missed out on one of the most diverse, warm series on TV. From the Wachowskis (who directed The Matrix trilogy), the show has a complex mythology, but a lot of heart behind it. It was canceled by Netflix last year, but they’re bringing it back for a finale film this June that will wrap everything up.

❚ Stream it on Netflix. The finale lands Friday.

If you love off-beat crime drama Claws

This under-the-radar crime drama from TNT is finally streaming its first season, and in the nick of time. The series, starring Niecy Nash (Getting On), Carrie Preston (The Good Wife) and Judy Reyes (Scrubs), follows women at a nail salon who launder money for local organized crime.

❚ Stream it on Hulu. Season 2 premieres June 10 (9 ET/PT) on TNT.

If you’re into superheroes Marvel’s Luke Cage

The hero of Harlem is back. After a strong first season and an outing on The Defenders, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) gets to protect his city all over again in Season 2. Luke, who was introduced on the first season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, has super-strength and unbreakable skin, which means, among other things, he’s bulletproof. He’s also one of Marvel’s most appealing heroes.

❚ Stream it on Netflix. Season 2 lands June 22.

If you’re into superheroines Wynonna Earp

Think Buffy the Vampire slayer in the wild, wild West. The supernatural series follows the great-granddaughter of Wyatt Earp, who has inherited a supernatural gift and has to keep demons and other creatures from overrunning the world and her town of Purgatory. Wynonna is good, not-very-clean and sometimes overly silly fun, in the best way.

❚ Stream it on Netflix. Season 3 premieres July 20 (9 ET/PT) on Syfy.

If you want to laugh and maybe also cringe Insecure

Issa Rae’s hilarious, heartfelt and occasionally tragic dramedy about a woman in her late 20s trying to keep her messy life together is an absolute must-see. The rare show that seems to improve with every episode, Insecure is incredibly rewarding to watch, and we can’t wait for what Season 3 will bring.

❚ Stream it on HBO Go/Now. Season 3 premieres Aug. 12 (10:30 ET/PT) on HBO.

SEVEN TWENTY-FOUR PRODUCTIONS/IDW ENTERTAINMENT
