Find­ing cheap sum­mer air­fares

Tim­ing is every­thing, es­pe­cially when it comes to cut­ting the cost of va­ca­tion air­fare. If you can avoid the peak of the sum­mer sea­son — June 23 to Aug. 27 you can cut costs. These sam­ple fares were found late last week on FareCom­pare.com; prices can change with­out no­tice.

Fly be­fore June 23

June 22 is the last day for cheaper pre-sum­mer fares (but give or take a day or two, de­pend­ing on where you live and where you’ll travel). A cou­ple of non-stop, round-trip flights:

June 15-18: $183

July 6-9: $205

❚ Den­ver-New York

June 14-18: $202

July 12-16: $233

Fly after Aug. 27

On Aug. 28, the cheaper fall sea­son kicks in.

July 21-28: $344

Aug. 30-Sept. 6: $274

Fly after early Septem­ber for Europe trips

We saved the best for last; roundtrip from Wash­ing­ton to Lon­don:
