ONCE STRAW­BER­RIES COME INTO SEA­SON, strawberry short­cake be­comes THE dessert to make. And if this sea­sonal fa­vorite is one of your fa­vorites, you won’t be able to re­sist this take on the iconic dessert. All the com­po­nents are repack­aged into a bar, per­fect for tak­ing to a potluck or party. And as with any fresh fruit dessert, it’s only as good as the fruit you make it with, so look for plump, juicy berries. The bars are made with a strawberry-stud­ded short­cake dough, then sand­wiched with a layer of strawberry jam right in the mid­dle. And it’s worth not­ing, there’s a secret in­gre­di­ent in the dough — white choco­late. It adds creami­ness to the baked crust with­out mak­ing it dense. Be sure to use a bar of white choco­late in this recipe. The chips typ­i­cally con­tain less co­coa but­ter than the bars, so they won’t melt as well. All it takes to com­plete the bars is a sim­ple strawberry sauce with just the right amount of sugar to sweeten it and corn­starch to thicken it. To el­e­vate these bars even more, fin­ish them off with freshly whipped cream.
