It may not have been the kick heard ‘round the world, but it definitely made some noise in parts of Tallapoosa, Ga…..and all of Warrior Nation.

Senior kicker Bailey Goins split the uprights on a 36-yard field goal as time expired to propel LFO to a 17-14 win at Haralson County in a Region 6-AAA crossover game Friday night.

It was a sweet measure of revenge for the Warriors who lost 55-0 to the Rebels last year in Fort Oglethorpe.

LFO (2-3) led 7-6 at intermission after a scoreless first quarter. Ruddy Ware hooked up with quarterback Zach Vaughn on a 29-yard TD pass in the second quarter as Goins added the point after. The Rebels’ six points came on an 11-yard run by Treylon Sheppard, but Haralson missed the extra point.

Vaughn scored the lone points of the third quarter as he called his own number from five yards out. Another Goins kick would make it 14-6 headed into the fourth.

Haralson County (0-4) tied the game up with a touchdown on a 40yard run by Sheppard and the Rebels made good on the two-point conversion to knot the game at 14. But Goins’ kick would prevent the game from going to overtime.

LFO outgained Haralson County in total yards, 370 to 199. The Warriors had a balanced attack with 187 yards rushing and 183 through the air. Nathan Williams ran for a team-high 102 yards, while Ware had 56 yards receiving.

LFO had 22 first downs to just 12 for the Rebels and converted 7-of-11 third down chances, while keeping the Rebels from picking up a single third down (0-8).

The Warriors will begin 6-AAA North subregion play this Friday with their annual Catoosa County clash against Ringgold at Tommy Cash Stadium.

LFO will be trying to snap a 12-game losing streak to their rivals.
