Ruby Tum­lin Tram­mell, age 82, of LaFayette passed away Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 03, 2017.

She was pas­sion­ate about help­ing oth­ers and taught Sun­day school through­out her life­time. Ruby was a mem­ber of Lin­wood Bap­tist Church. She be­gan her work­ing ca­reer with E.T. Bar­wick Mills and was later em­ployed by LaFayette Health Care as a Nurs­ing As­sis­tant. She was a lov­ing mother, sis­ter, friend, and a ded­i­cated Chris­tian.

She was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents, T.L. Tum­lin and Leona Wilk­er­son Tum­lin; and sis­ters, Betty June Rus­sell and Re­becca “Becky” Ma­han Buchanan.

She is sur­vived by her son James “Tony” Tram­mell of LaFayette; sis­ters, Susie T. Smith and Joyce T. Hall both of LaFayette.

Richard “Ed­die” Gil­reath, age 68, of Chicka­mauga passed away Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 04, 2017.

Ed­die was an avid deer hunter who loved the out­doors and fish­ing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Thomas Gil­reath and Josie Sweet Gil­reath; sis­ters, Betty Parker and Sherry Neal; broth­ers, Tommy Gil­reath, Frank Gil­reath, Ravin Gil­reath, and Ray­mond Gil­reath.

He is sur­vived by his lov­ing wife of 49 years, Mary Sur­rett Gil­reath; daugh­ters, Melissa (David) Es­tus and Amy (Greg) Bar­rett; grand­chil­dren, Brooke (Rusty) Massey, Tripp Cheatham, Tyler Bar­rett, Bai­ley Arthur, Becca Cheatham, and Madi­son Bar­rett; great grand­chil­dren, Kenna Massey, Eli Massey, Pai­z­ley Cheatham, Ay­den Bar­rett, Kruz Tucker, Bella Bar­rett, and Bryer Cheatham; sis­ter, Lu­cille O’Don­ald; and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

Laura Ruth Strick­land Wilson, age 71, of LaFayette passed away Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 04, 2017.

She was a mem­ber of the LaFayette Pres­by­te­rian Church. Laura was a grad­u­ate of LaFayette High School class of 1965 and the McKen­zie School of Busi­ness. She re­tired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Ten­nessee.

She is sur­vived by her hus­band of 46 years, Harold Wilson; daugh­ter, Brandy (Keith) Fer­ris of Athens, GA; grand­chil­dren, Abi­gail Fer­ris and Anderson Fer­ris; sis­ter, Jane (Phil) Shel­ton of LaFayette; and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

Roland Lee Espy, age 89 of LaFayette passed away Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 04, 2017.

He en­joyed fish­ing, at­tend­ing bluegrass fes­ti­vals, and had a love for base­ball. Roland leaves be­hind many friends and neigh­bors at Town Creek Apart­ments and the Handy Mart whom in jest re­ferred to him as the Mayor of Town Creek Apart­ments.

He was pre­ceded in death by his daugh­ters, Tina Brock and Vickie Sweeney; grand­daugh­ter, April Stacy; par­ents, Clif­ford Lee Espy and An­nie McGill Espy; sis­ter, Martha Tay­lor; and brother, Bud Espy.

He is sur­vived by his grand­chil­dren, Brittany (Anthony) Brock Woods, Joshua Wade Wil­liams, and Heather (Billy) Hathorne; great grand­chil­dren, Eas­ton Autry, Tues­day Hathorne, Danielle Hathorne, and Trista Hathorne; and sev­eral nieces, neph­ews and cousins.

She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Alvin Jack­son Hicks; in­fant daugh­ter, Bar­bara An­nette Hicks; grand­son, Mark Alvin Gass; broth­ers, Thomas Rooks, Lloyd Rooks, and Ray­mond Rooks; sis­ter, Beatrice Sow­ell; and son-in-law, Bob Gass.

She is sur­vived by her daugh­ters, Lynda (Leon) Valdes of Jack­sonville, Fla., Judy Gass and Teresa Fahrubel both of LaFayette; son, Alvin (An­dria) Rus­sell Hicks; five grand­sons; two grand­daugh­ters; 12 great grand­chil­dren; one great-great grand­child; sis­ter, Vir­ginia (Bob) Fer­rell of Chat­tanooga; and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

Frances Juanita Davis Reese, age 86, of Menlo passed away Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 3, 2017.

She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Wilkes Reese Sr.; par­ents, Mar­shall Davis and Susan Hood Davis; great grand­son, Colin Shrop­shire.

She is sur­vived by her daugh­ter, Gwen Cham­bers of LaFayette; son Wilks Reese of Menlo; grand­chil­dren, Pixie Hon­ey­cutt, Tam­ber­lyn Reese, Stephanie Mitchell, Melissa Cham­bers, and Tar­a­ly­tia Cham­bers; eight great grand­chil­dren; four great-great grand­chil­dren; sev­eral nieces and neph­ews; and spe­cial friend, Donnie (Devon) Mathis.

Susan Hope Hayes, 60, Chat­tanooga, Tenn.

Dr. Susan Hope Hayes, 60 of Chat­tanooga, went home to be with her Lord and Sav­ior on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 4, 2017.

She was born in Gads­den, Alabama on Septem­ber 11, 1957 and had lived in the Chat­tanooga area for most of her life. She was a grad­u­ate of West­min­ster High School Class of ’75 and then re­ceived her med­i­cal de­gree from the Uni­ver­sity of Alabama Med­i­cal School on June 2, 1985. She served her in­tern­ship in pe­di­atrics at Er­langer Hospi­tal and then worked her en­tire ca­reer as a pe­di­atric doc­tor in the Chat­tanooga & sur­round­ing ar­eas. She was a lov­ing and de­voted daugh­ter, sis­ter and wife who will be truly missed by all who knew her. She was pre­ceded in death by her fa­ther, Le­vearl Hayes.

Sur­vivors in­clude her hus­band, Brad Yates of Chat­tanooga, TN; mother, Sarah Hayes; brother & sis­terin-law, Ron­ald & Deana Hayes all of Gads­den, AL; niece, Kate­lyn Hayes and aunt, Betty & Richard Brooks and nu­mer­ous ex­tended fam­ily & friends.

Me­mo­rial ser­vices: 3:00 p.m. Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 15, 2017 in the Wal­nut Park Com­mu­nity Church on Wilson Street in Gads­den, AL.

Opal Tucker John­son, 81 of Ft. Oglethorpe and formerly of Ider, AL, passed away on Wed­nes­day Oc­to­ber 4, 2017.

She was a mem­ber of The Church of God at Rossville. Chicka­mauga and East Ridge Church of God of Prophecy were also a big part of her life. Opal loved her Sav­ior and her fam­ily most of all and also en­joyed read­ing, South­ern Gospel Mu­sic and cook­ing for her those she loved.

She is pre­ceded in death by her par­ents, Char­lie and Gertrude Tucker; hus­band, Clarence “C.L.” John­son; daugh­ter, Karen John­son Simp­son; two sis­ters; five broth­ers; moth­erin-law, Geanell John­son Evans.

Sur­vivors in­clude her chil­dren, Feli­cia John­son, Tammy (Rick) Har­mon and Steve (Kathy) John­son; sis­ters, Nina Sar­ratt, Betty Shankles, Polly Mor­ris and Dortha Steele; 10 grand­chil­dren, 18 great grand­chil­dren; 4 great­great grand­chil­dren; nieces and neph­ews.
