Middle School Softball: Gordon Lee claims No. 1 seed for NGAC tournament
The Saddle Ridge Mustangs closed out their 2017 season last Monday, the first day that Ringgold’s new home softball field was finally opened. However, the Navyand-Red weren’t able to spoil the party as the Lady Tigers claimed a 4-1 victory.
Lexi Baker had four strikeouts for Saddle Ridge, while sixth grader Abby Gaoa paced the Saddle Ridge offense by going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Abby Sansing, Madison Sisemore and Mykeria Johnson also had hits for the Mustangs.
Individual details for Ringgold were not provided as of press time.
Gordon Lee 3, Ringgold 2
The Lady Trojans traveled to Catoosa County last Tuesday and clinched the NGAC regular season league championship with a victory over the Lady Tigers.
Emma Langston struck out eight and allowed just five hits against a potent Ringgold lineup. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Macie Sharp went 2-for-4 with a clutch two-run double in the top of the sixth.
Sharp scored Gordon Lee’s third run later in the inning, beating a throw home on an RBIsingle off the bat off Emma McGraw.
Asia Lanham, Allie Farrow and Anniston Hudson each had two hits, while Star Alexander, Mila Smith and Abby Jackson matched McGraw with one hit.
Heritage 12, Lakeview 0
The Lady Generals exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning last Tuesday and claimed a four-inning win over the Lady Warriors.
Riley Kokinda had a triple, scored three times and drove in four runs in the victory. Zoe Wright had a pair of RBIs, as did Brinley Horner.
Gracie Dawson had one RBI, while Adie Ball and Lexi Duckett each scored twice.
Horner allowed just two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Macy McGrew had a double for the Lady Warriors and Caroline Rape picked up a single. Julie Shore was saddled with the loss.
Gordon Lee, 8-1 in league play, will be the No. 1 seed for this week’s NGAC tournament.
The first round was scheduled to be played on Tuesday, Oct. 10 with Ringgold taking on Chattanooga Valley in a game at Ridgeland High School and Heritage playing at Dade County.
The second round will be played on Thursday, Oct. 12. Topseeded Gordon Lee will host the lowest remaining seed, while second-seeded Trion will host the highest remaining seed.
All first and second round games will begin at 5 p.m.
The best-of-three championship series will be played this weekend.
