Mid­dle School Soft­ball: Gor­don Lee claims No. 1 seed for NGAC tour­na­ment

The Sad­dle Ridge Mus­tangs closed out their 2017 sea­son last Mon­day, the first day that Ring­gold’s new home soft­ball field was fi­nally opened. How­ever, the Navyand-Red weren’t able to spoil the party as the Lady Tigers claimed a 4-1 vic­tory.

Lexi Baker had four strike­outs for Sad­dle Ridge, while sixth grader Abby Gaoa paced the Sad­dle Ridge of­fense by go­ing 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Abby Sans­ing, Madi­son Sise­more and Myk­e­ria John­son also had hits for the Mus­tangs.

In­di­vid­ual de­tails for Ring­gold were not pro­vided as of press time.

The Lady Tro­jans trav­eled to Ca­toosa County last Tues­day and clinched the NGAC reg­u­lar sea­son league cham­pi­onship with a vic­tory over the Lady Tigers.

Emma Langston struck out eight and al­lowed just five hits against a po­tent Ring­gold lineup. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Ma­cie Sharp went 2-for-4 with a clutch two-run dou­ble in the top of the sixth.

Sharp scored Gor­don Lee’s third run later in the in­ning, beat­ing a throw home on an RBIs­in­gle off the bat off Emma McGraw.

Asia Lan­ham, Al­lie Far­row and An­nis­ton Hud­son each had two hits, while Star Alexan­der, Mila Smith and Abby Jack­son matched McGraw with one hit.

Her­itage 12, Lakeview 0

The Lady Gen­er­als ex­ploded for 10 runs in the bot­tom of the sec­ond in­ning last Tues­day and claimed a four-in­ning win over the Lady War­riors.

Ri­ley Kokinda had a triple, scored three times and drove in four runs in the vic­tory. Zoe Wright had a pair of RBIs, as did Brin­ley Horner.

Gra­cie Daw­son had one RBI, while Adie Ball and Lexi Duck­ett each scored twice.

Horner al­lowed just two hits and two walks with four strike­outs.

Macy McGrew had a dou­ble for the Lady War­riors and Caro­line Rape picked up a sin­gle. Julie Shore was sad­dled with the loss.

Gor­don Lee, 8-1 in league play, will be the No. 1 seed for this week’s NGAC tour­na­ment.

The first round was sched­uled to be played on Tues­day, Oct. 10 with Ring­gold tak­ing on Chat­tanooga Val­ley in a game at Ridge­land High School and Her­itage play­ing at Dade County.

The sec­ond round will be played on Thurs­day, Oct. 12. Topseeded Gor­don Lee will host the low­est re­main­ing seed, while sec­ond-seeded Trion will host the high­est re­main­ing seed.

All first and sec­ond round games will be­gin at 5 p.m.

The best-of-three cham­pi­onship se­ries will be played this week­end.
