Lady Eagles finish fourth in SCAA tourney

The Oakwood Christian Lady Eagles wrapped up the 2017 high school volleyball season last week with a victory on Senior Night before a fourth-place finish in the Southern Christian Athletic Associatio­n tournament in Collegedal­e.

Last Tuesday, the Lady Eagles honored lone senior Annika Green and the Navyand-Gold picked up a 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 win over Tennessee Christian Prep School. Green led the way with six kills and seven blocks, while Lexie Asher had six kills, two digs and served up eight straight points in the second set.

Lily Green added three kills, while Mary Ownby had two digs, a kill and five straight service points in the opening set. Other contributo­rs included Raleigh Suits with three digs and Layla Rogers, Elliana Hammond and Amelia Michael, who each added two.

On Thursday, OCA opened play in the SCAA tournament with a 25-14, 25-15 victory over Mountain View Christian as Annika Green had eight kills and a dig. Asher had four kills and six straight service points in first set, while Lily Green had two kills and seven consecutiv­e service points in second set. Michael chipped in with one kill.

However, the Lady Eagles’ bid for another SCAA finals appearance fell short with a 25-14, 25-10 loss to the host school, CAYA.

Annika Green, who was later voted to the SCAA All-Tournament Team, had two digs and a block, while Michael and Rogers added two digs apiece.

The Lady Eagles ended the season with an 11-6 overall record.
