June 14 is World Blood Donor Day
World Blood Donor Day is June 14 and is a day to honor all the people who selflessly give blood to save lives in their communities. It is also a day to remember how important blood donation is to all the patients in community hospitals who count on blood donors to supply life-saving products.
“We are happy to give thanks to our donors this World Blood Donor Day,” said Dr. Elizabeth Culler, medical director at Blood Assurance, “We encourage anyone who is able to donate to do so, not just on World Blood Donor Day, but all year round.”
Summer is an especially difficult time for blood banks due to increased usage and less donations. Many people are traveling and do not come as often during the summer as they would at other times of the year. Schools are also out during the summer and unable to host drives. That is why Blood Assurance asks that anyone in town and able to give, please do so.
