Stout Crowned Miss Clothespin
CROWNS & SASHES HANDED OUT TO WINNERS
Gracee Stout, a student at Lincoln High School, was crowned queen in the 2018 Miss Clothespin Pageant.
This year’s pageant had 75 contestants, ranging in age from babies to teenagers. To accommodate many younger girls, pageant sponsor, Prairie Grove Junior Civic League, created a new Toddler Miss category.
The pageant, held Aug. 19 at Prairie Grove High School, had an additional excitement factor. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for the area during the pageant so the event was stopped for a while and everyone moved to the school’s hallway for safety for about 30-45 minutes.
Natalie Bartholomew of Prairie Grove served as emcee and sponsors were The Back Porch, Flowers-N-Friends and Crescents.
The Miss Clothespin Pageant is one of several projects sponsored by Prairie Grove Junior Civic League to raise money to meet the needs of those in the community. The League, organized in March 1965 and federated June 1965, is a part of the National Federation of Women’s clubs.
“We work with our local schools to provide back to school items, meals, clothes, coats and shoes for local students and their families. We make and sell the Clothesline Fair Books, organize and host the Miss Clothespin Pageant, and we sell food at various times during the year,” said Beth Coyle, president.
The women also give blessing bags to local home bound senior citizens and send out care cards to those who need them.
The group meets at 6:30 p.m., the second Monday of every month at the Prairie Grove Chamber building. Anyone is welcome to join.
