FARMINGTON — The Cardinal boys golf team won their first five meets of the season heading into Monday’s competition they hosted at Valley View Golf Course in Farmington.

Seven boys are out for golf with a quartet of freshmen playing varsity: Rhett South, Landon Lawson, Dakota Bogan, and Clayton Antwine.

Junior varsity members include: Cody Ballard, sophomore; Jonathan Brye, sophomore; and Trenton Sisco, sophomore.

Freshman Bailey Cuzick is the only girl out.

On Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Oak Ridge, Farmington placed first with a team score of 239 ahead of Gravette and Pea Ridge, which tied for second place with 257 while Huntsville finished fourth with 285. Three years ago Randy Osnes had a conversation with Rhett’s dad, who informed the Farmington coach that his son was pretty good. He’s living up to that billing.

Rhett South shot a 71 with Lawson at 80, Bogan, 88; and Antwine, 118. The toughest competitors were Cato from Pea Ridge, 79; Jesse Frye, of Gravette, 80; and Brayton Mulden, of Gravette, with 80.

“We’ve been to five meets and won all five of them,” said Farmington coach Randy Osnes. “Rhett has been the medalist in all five of them.”

The team has been competing since the last week of July and Osnes says they are an enjoyable group.

“They’re just all good golfers to begin with,” Osnes said. “These young men, they live it, they sleep it. They thoroughly enjoy being around all their teammates. Being freshmen their overall goal is to make it to state as freshmen playing high school golf.”
