PANERAI LAUNCHES NEW CLASSIC YACHTS CHALLENGE EDITIONS
The 13th edition of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge (PCYC) kicked off in Antigua in April and continues throughout the spring and summer. This year, Panerai is offering special PCYC timepieces not only to the regatta winners but to the public — two new references of the Luminor 1950 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Acciaio, and a new version of Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Titanio.
GIRARD-PERREGAUX LAUREATO COLLECTION ADDS A SKELETON
At Baselworld 2016, Girardperregaux gave its classic Laureato collection a retro-style facelift, bringing the watches closer to their original 1975 designs. This year, the revamped Laureato family welcomes an all-new model with a skeletonized movement, offered in both steel and rose-gold versions.
BORROWED TIME: CORUM GOLDEN BRIDGE RECTANGLE
Corum’s iconic Golden Bridge debuted in 1980 in its original barrel-shaped case and appeared in a redesigned version, with a more traditional round case, last year. At this year’s Baselworld watch fair, Corum introduced yet another variation of the Golden Bridge, in a new, Art Decoinfluenced rectangular case. We had a chance to wrist-test this distinctive gold-cased timepiece, before its official retail launch, during our annual visit to Basel.
IWC UPDATES THE PORTUGIESER CHRONO CLASSIC
While IWC’S focus at this year’s SIHH was squarely on its revamped Da Vinci series, the Schaffhausenbased brand has issued a few reminders since then that it’s not ignoring its other popular watch collections in 2017. Following up the recent launch of its overhauled Ingenieur models, IWC has released a revised version of its Portugieser Chronograph Classic model.
TAG HEUER PAYS TRIBUTE TO RACING LEGEND AYRTON SENNA
Thirty years ago, in 1987, Brazilian Formula 1 racing driver Ayrton Senna won his first Monaco Grand Prix and went on to become one of the greatest drivers the world had ever seen before his untimely death in 1994. This year, to commemorate that historic victory, TAG Heuer — a brand long associated with motorsports — launched three new limited-edition watches devoted to Senna.
