PANERAI LAUNCHES NEW CLAS­SIC YACHTS CHAL­LENGE EDI­TIONS

The 13th edition of the Panerai Clas­sic Yachts Chal­lenge (PCYC) kicked off in An­tigua in April and con­tin­ues through­out the spring and sum­mer. This year, Panerai is of­fer­ing spe­cial PCYC time­pieces not only to the re­gatta win­ners but to the pub­lic — two new ref­er­ences of the Lu­mi­nor 1950 3 Days Chrono Fly­back Au­to­matic Ac­ciaio, and a new ver­sion of Lu­mi­nor 1950 Re­gatta 3 Days Chrono Fly­back Ti­tanio.

GIRARD-PERREGAUX LAUREATO COL­LEC­TION ADDS A SKELE­TON

At Basel­world 2016, Gi­rard­per­re­gaux gave its clas­sic Laureato col­lec­tion a retro-style facelift, bring­ing the watches closer to their orig­i­nal 1975 de­signs. This year, the re­vamped Laureato fam­ily wel­comes an all-new model with a skele­tonized move­ment, of­fered in both steel and rose-gold ver­sions.

BOR­ROWED TIME: CORUM GOLDEN BRIDGE REC­TAN­GLE

Corum’s iconic Golden Bridge de­buted in 1980 in its orig­i­nal bar­rel-shaped case and ap­peared in a re­designed ver­sion, with a more tra­di­tional round case, last year. At this year’s Basel­world watch fair, Corum in­tro­duced yet an­other vari­a­tion of the Golden Bridge, in a new, Art De­coin­flu­enced rec­tan­gu­lar case. We had a chance to wrist-test this dis­tinc­tive gold-cased time­piece, be­fore its of­fi­cial re­tail launch, dur­ing our an­nual visit to Basel.

IWC UP­DATES THE PORTUGIESER CHRONO CLAS­SIC

While IWC’S fo­cus at this year’s SIHH was squarely on its re­vamped Da Vinci se­ries, the Schaffhausen­based brand has is­sued a few re­minders since then that it’s not ig­nor­ing its other pop­u­lar watch col­lec­tions in 2017. Fol­low­ing up the re­cent launch of its over­hauled Ingenieur mod­els, IWC has re­leased a re­vised ver­sion of its Portugieser Chrono­graph Clas­sic model.

TAG HEUER PAYS TRIB­UTE TO RAC­ING LEG­END AYRTON SENNA

Thirty years ago, in 1987, Brazil­ian For­mula 1 rac­ing driver Ayrton Senna won his first Monaco Grand Prix and went on to be­come one of the great­est driv­ers the world had ever seen be­fore his un­timely death in 1994. This year, to com­mem­o­rate that his­toric vic­tory, TAG Heuer — a brand long as­so­ci­ated with mo­tor­sports — launched three new lim­ited-edition watches de­voted to Senna.
