Longines —

WatchTime - - BASELWORLD -

— Longines has for quite some time been very successful with re-editions, and 2017, the same year Longines is celebrating its 185th anniversary, doesn't seem to be different, thanks to the release of several vintage-inspired pieces in the heritage collection.

Among these is the Flagship Heritage 60th Anniversary 19572017, a classic watch that goes back to the roots of the brand’s Flagship series that first set sail in 1957.

Available in steel, (solid) yellow or rose gold, and measuring 38.5 mm in diameter, the new version combines many of the classic elements of its predecessors: an elegant case, a simple crown and thin lugs, and, of course, a stamped caravel (a 16th-17th Century Iberian Peninsula sailing ship) on the caseback, which has been the series’ hallmark from the beginning.

e dial uses a two-toned layout of a brushed silver outer circle and an inner matte silverwhite circle, with the brand’s logo and the “Flagship” below. Additionally, there are applied gold hour markers with Arabic numerals at each of the quarter hours, and faceted indexes for the rest; the dauphine hands are luminous.

e Flagship Heritage 60th Anniversary 1957-2017 is powered by Longines’s automatic Caliber L609 (based on the ETA 2892), offering a 42-hour power reserve. Each of the gold models is limited to 60 pieces, steel to 1957 pieces. Prices start at $2,175.

Another milestone worth celebrating is the 90th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s historic non-stop transatlantic flight in the “Spirit of St. Louis.” Longines has introduced a new version of its Lindbergh Hour Angle watch in a 90-piece limited edition, for the first time with a 47.5-mm titanium case.

e PVD rotating bezel allows to adjust for the daily variations in the equation of time, while a galvanic black disk in the center of dial rotates to synchronize the seconds with a radio time signal. e brushed silver dial features a 180-degree scale for calculating the longitude. e watch can therefore be used to indicate the hour angle in degrees and in minutes of arc, as well displaying the current time in hours, minutes and seconds.

Longines has equipped the Lindbergh Hour Angle Watch 90th Anniversary with the Caliber L699 (based on the ETA A07.111 Valgranges). Price: SF5,000 (about $5,015).
