We love going to Walt Disney World during the fall and winter, so much so that we now only visit the Resort during those two seasons. Kids are back in school so the crowds are low for the most part, parks are decorated beautifully, there are awesome parties at Magic Kingdom, and the weather is wonderful.
You can leave the spray bottles, flip flops, and fans at home. The weather is so pleasant during these cooler months. In the fall, the weather averages from the mid-80's and the low in the lower-60’s. And in the winter, the high averages in the low-70's and lows in the mid-50's.
Many people often wonder about what to pack this time of year. The weather in Florida can be tricky, kind of like the weather in my home state of Texas. One day it's sunny and warm, the next it's cold and windy.
My number one rule is don't forget your hoodies. Yes, I know this is Florida, but don't make the mistake of forgetting to pack a hoodie, it gets cool at night in fall and during the day throughout the winter months. Two years goes we went at the end of October; one of the nights got really cool and I ended up having to buy six $50 hoodies from one of the parks shop for each of my children. I suggest wearing a t-shirt and layering, so once it gets warmer, you can take the layers and still be comfortable.
I also suggest bringing a poncho and extra socks with you. The weather in Florida is unpredictable, and rain showers can last as little as a few minutes. No one wants to walk around sloping wet (unless you choose to ride Splash Mountain) during cooler weather.
And don't forget your swimsuit and water shoes. The pools and water parks are heated, and many people don't take the opportunity to enjoy them during the fall and winter. I’ve found that either renting a locker or bringing a backpack to put dry clothes in while enjoying the water rides makes life much more comfortable once your done. Also, bring a beach towel because it can be a little cold when you get out of the water.
These are just a few suggestions that we have learned over the years, but should be a good start to your packing list—enjoy the magical weather!
