GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
This month Walt Disney World turns 45. Imagine that. Forty- Five years what a ride.
Since October 1, 1971 Walt Disney World has been thrilling guests. Through the years attractions have come and gone. Some, are easily forgotten, some, still have large followings. We thought it would be fun to look at the things at Walt Disney World that are no longer with us.
Welcome to the “Gone But Not Forgotten at WDW” issue.
It's a great big beautiful tomorrow…
This month our feature articles go decade by decade and look at the attractions that opened in that decade and have now closed. We start with the 1970’s and the closing of classic rides like Mr. Toad and not so well know rides like the Swan Boats.
We keep going all the way through the 2010’s and yes, there a several attractions that opened in the 2010’s that have already closed like the short- lived Tangle Play and Greet.
Wow, the nostalgia. What a fun trip down memory lane.
In this month’s Helping Hands section we look at the classic attractions that are not to be missed. We take a look at if it makes sense to splurge on Signature Restaurants. Then since fall is here we talk about what to pack for the “cold” months of the year in Orlando. ( Yes, it does get cold sometimes.)
Have you ever talked to Mickey? Has he ever talked back? This month our Best of WDW Attraction is Talking Mickey. Yes, Mickey talks but only at 1 location. The resort of the month this month is one of my favorites, the Wilderness Lodge.
Speaking of signature restaurants the number one signature restaurant at Walt Disney World is Victoria and Albert’s, which is our restaurant of the month this month. Finally our gift shop is Zuri’s Sweets Shop. Yummy.
Section k! is always fun. This month is just fun. Wally D is flitting around as always. The Parks Kids are still singing. Our Bring the Magic Home this month makes Disney Princess Silhouette Prints. That’s sure to be fun. Be sure to download the word search, puzzle and coloring sheet for the kids.
What attractions do you miss most from each decade? That’s our WDW Fanzone poll question. I think some of the answers might just surprise you. ( Or not.)
Speaking of yummy recipes, Ok, maybe we weren’t but we are now. This month’s recipe of the month is the Maui Scalloped Potatoes from ‘ Ohana. Oh, I’ve got to try some of those.
Then we look at some Classic Vinlymations followed by the Photo of the Month contest winners.
Judd Helms, one of the photographers on our Photo Team, takes a bunch of pictures of the monorail every time he visits. We’ve taken the best of those and made them into a SPECIAL Report to honor the 45th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Monorail. This one is very special.
There’s a lot going on at Walt Disney World. It’s October and that’s means, celebrations, ghosts and goblins are all about.
In Around the World this month we start out by looking at the latest news from WDW. Then it’s time for a trip down Main Street on the Main Street Trolley. After that Did You Know who the first guests were in Walt Disney World? That and other fun facts are discussed in our Did You Know article.
We wrap up all the fun with a big month in Disney history. Probably the biggest ever. And then we take a trip over to enemy territory and visit the Hard Rock Café, the largest Hard Rock Café in the world!
That ought to keep you busy for a while.
