Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is the most magical place on earth, and our favorite Disney Parks destination! But there’s lots more going on worldwide – let’s take a look at what Disney is up to around the globe this month!
Disneyland Resort: Anaheim, California
For Christmas, the Grand Californian Hotel featured a gingerbread interpretation of the hotel’s façade made with 600 pounds of gingerbread and standing 7 feet tall and 12 feet wide.
At Disney’s California Adventure, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is closing on January 2, 2017 to be re-opened later this year as Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout.
The Main Street Electrical Parade will return to Disneyland on January 20 with nightly performances until June 18, 2017.
Plans are in the works to build a new 7-storey parking structure and elevated walkway on Harbour Boulevard in advance of the eventual Star Wars Land opening.
A fourth hotel is in the works for this resort, which will be located at the northern end of the Downtown Disney Parking Lot.
Splitsville Luxury Lanes is coming to Downtown Disney in late 2017.
Beginning March 26, 2017, Disneyland Paris will be celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary – It’ Time to Sparkle.
Star Tours: The Adventures Continue will open at Disneyland Paris this spring, along with a Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain overlay on Discoveryland’s Space Mountain.
Disney Stars on Parade will debut along with Mickey Presents “Happy Anniversary Disneyland Paris” and The Starlit Princess Waltz.
A new nighttime spectacular will premiere – Disney Illuminations – and will include lights, projections, an special effects.
From January 14-March 26, 2017, the Walt Disney Studios park will host The Season of the Force, including the First Order March, Stormtrooper Patrol, Jedi Training Academy, special events and a new nighttime presentation of Star Wars: A Galactic Celebration.
New special “explosive” projection effects have been added to Big Thunder Mountain.
Disney Village has added a new fast casual Italian restaurant to its offerings – Vapiano’s.
Tokyo Disney Resort: Tokyo, Japan
Events planned for 2017 include: New Years Program, Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Fantasy, Sweet Duffy, Disney’s Easter, Tanabata Days, Natsu Matsuri & Disney’s Summer Festival, Disney Halloween, and Christmas Fantasy & Christmas Wishes.
TDR Now is the official Tokyo Disney Resort wait times app, and is now available on IOS.
A Star Wars inspired black ice cream cone has debuted at Toyko Disneyland.
On January 11, 2017, Grand Circuit Raceway will close permanently to make way for a Fantasyland expansion including an Alice in Wonderland area and a new Beauty and the Beast attraction.
Tokyo has announced plans to add a Scandinavian port of call including a Frozen area.
Hong Kong Disneyland: Hong Kong, China
Iron Man Experience is set to open in early January 2017 at Hong Kong Disneyland.
An enormous infrastructure overhaul has been announced for this resort, including an expansion of the Marvel universe, a reimagining of Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, the addition of Adventureland Showplace featuring Moana’s Village Festival, a new Frozen themed area, and a transformed Castle and hub area which will showcase new day and night entertainment.
Shanghai Disney Resort: Shanghai, China
Even thought this park has only been open a few months, two attractions are already closed indefinitely for maintenance: Roaring Rapids and Voyage to the Crystal Grotto.
Aulani – A Disney Resort & Spa: Ko Olina, Hawaii
Moana has begun meeting guests at Aulani.
In November, and new luau - KA WA’A – has be added to the resort’s entertainment offerings, along with Menehune Mischief, a dinner show.
Adventures by Disney

New offerings in 2017 will include a Disney River Cruise along the Rhine River, more dates for the Winter in Wyoming package, as well as additions to the China and Australia vacation plans.
Disney Cruise Line
The popular Star Wars Day at Sea introduced in 2016 will return in 2017 with 15 sailing dates, in addition to Marvel Day at Sea which will debut in the fall.
So far, 2018 sailings include San Juan to Southern California including Bonaire, San Diego to Baja and Mexican Riviera or Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada, and several itineraries out of Miami and Port Canaveral.
Frozen, A Musical Spectacular has premiered on board the Disney Wonder.
The Disney Wonder has a new dining option to delight guests – Tiana’s Place, complete with New Orleans inspired fare and live entertainment.

Newsies: The Broadway Musical will be coming to US movie theatres for a 3 day engagement beginning on February 16.
Disneynature has released Growing Up Wild on Disney Movies Anywhere – the story follows 5 young animals and their adventures.
Marketing for Cars 3 is decidedly dark and more grown up than we are used to from Pixar – and things don’t look good for Lightning Mcqueen.
