The recent announcements from the D23 Expo in July did NOT disappoint! If you have been following along with our newsletters and blog, you know Walt Disney World is about to get some incredible additions. If you’ve missed the revelations, I have it all for you below. A brief overview of what’s to come includes a Tron roller coaster, the addition of a Guardian’s of the Galaxy attraction, and two more DVC resorts!

MAGIC KINGDOM

If you miss Push, the trashcan from Tomorrowland, now through August, stop by Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom to meet its latest resident, ican the Showbot!

A new theater is in the works for Main Street U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom. The new venue will be modeled after Willis Wood theater, which was found in Kansas City in the 1920’s. The entertainment that will be housed in the new theater has not yet been announced. Expect the new location to open in time for the 50th Anniversary of Magic Kingdom in 2021.

A Tron attraction is coming to Magic Kingdom! This is exciting news! If you aren’t familiar with the attraction at Shanghai Disneyland, take a moment and check out this Youtube video: https://youtu.be/taeucixxrdm This attraction is really going to be an ‘E-ticket.’ The roller coaster attraction will occupy an undeveloped area next to Space Mountain. This amazing attraction is expected to open in time for the 50th Anniversary of Magic Kingdom.

Disney’s Hall of Presidents, which was scheduled to reopen on June 29th, has been delayed. Since 1993, all acting president Audio-animatronics have had a speaking role, and the current president will be no exception. Disney has finally been able to schedule a recording session for President Trump’s speech. In addition to adding a new president, the Hall of Presidents attraction is getting a makeover as well. Expect not only to see a new show, but experience it in a refurbished theater with new sound and projection systems. While no date has been set, the Hall of Presidents should reopen in late 2017.

Merchandise inspired by the new nighttime spectacular at the Magic Kingdom, “Happily Ever After” can now be found at the Emporium on Main Street U.S.A. You can complement your wardrobe with a t-shirt, hat, and even a Tervis tumbler. There are also tank tops, pins, and light-up mouse ears. If you can’t make it to Walt Disney World any time soon, some items are also available on the Shop Disney Parks app.`

EPCOT

Epcot is scheduled for an overhaul over the next few years, and that includes a new restaurant! Located near Mission: SPACE, the restaurant will feature incredible views of,

you guessed it, space! The cuisine and opening date have not been shared but it’s sure to be out of this world! Mission:space is was scheduled to reopen this month but has been delayed. The space simulation ride is getting a new Green mission that will orbit Earth and be suitable for younger kids! The reopen date has not been determined at this time, nor the new height requirement.

In addition to a new restaurant, Epcot is going to receive several new attractions. First, a Guardians of the Galaxy themed attraction is coming to Future World. This will be replacing Ellen’s Energy Adventure, which will close on August 13th. World Showcase will also be getting a new Ratatouille based attraction in the France Pavilion. In this adventure, guests will “shrink” to the size of a rat as they are chased throughout a restaurant. The time frame has this attraction opening by the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort.

The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is not too far away- it opens on August 31st! Online reservations are now open for some great workshops, demonstrations, and seminars. One hands-on lesson called Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It! places you as the culinary master as you learn ways to create, blend, and explore while guided by expert chefs. You even get to eat and drink your masterpieces!

DISNEY’S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS

The new Star Wars Land that is currently being built finally has a name: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! The largest land expansion in Walt Disney World history is set to open in 2019.

At the D23 Expo in Anaheim this past weekend, Bob Chapek announced that Toy Story Land will be opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios next summer! You will be able to enjoy a family roller coaster called Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers. A firm date has not been announced, but I am predicting May 1, 2018- the 29th anniversary of the opening of the park.

If you are a big fan of The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I hope you have your trip planned before August 13th. At that time, the attraction will be closing for good to make way for a new adventure: Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Guests will be placed into the world of a Mickey Mouse Cartoon Short will amazing special effects and a fun theme song.
