22 ar­rested for DUI

Be­tween Nov. 6 and Sun­day, the Hawaii Po­lice Depart­ment ar­rested 22 mo­torists for sus­pected driv­ing un­der the in­flu­ence of an in­tox­i­cant. Two of the driv­ers were in­volved in a traf­fic ac­ci­dent and one was younger than age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,001 DUI ar­rests com­pared with 950 dur­ing the same pe­riod last year, an in­crease of 5.4 per­cent.

There have been 1,165 ma­jor ac­ci­dents so far this year com­pared with 1,232 dur­ing the same pe­riod last year, a de­crease of 5.4 per­cent.

To date, there were 27 fa­tal crashes (one of which had mul­ti­ple deaths), re­sult­ing in 29 fa­tal­i­ties, com­pared with 24 fa­tal crashes (four of which had mul­ti­ple deaths), re­sult­ing in 28 fa­tal­i­ties for the same time last year. This rep­re­sents an in­crease 12.5 per­cent for fa­tal crashes.
