Lions trounce Jay for first win

Gravette’s O’Brien scores twice in 26-7 vic­tory over Bull­dogs

GRAVETTE — The Lions got the bet­ter of the vis­it­ing Jay (Okla.) Bull­dogs on Fri­day, scor­ing three touch­downs in the opening quar­ter and an­other in the third quar­ter to take a big 26-7 win in the non­con­fer­ence game on Fri­day night.

Austin O’Brien ran for a pair of touch­downs to lead the Lions to their first win of the sea­son in their fi­nal non­con­fer­ence game. Brady Moor­man added a 55-yard punt re­turn for a touch­down. Bai­ley Soule’ also scored for the Lions (now 1-2).

Jay’s only touch­down came just be­fore the end of the first half.

The Lions picked up 224 yards on 44 car­ries in the game and an­other 109 yards on five re­ceived passes. O’Brien had 144 rush­ing yards and 48 passing yards. Ta­jae White had 70 rush­ing yards, and Brady Moor­man re­ceived two passes for a to­tal of 53 yards.

Gravette’s de­fense made it tough on the Jay of­fense and sacked Jay’s quar­ter­back five times re­sult­ing in big losses for the Bull­dogs. Austin O’Brien and Colton Grimes were cred­ited with two sacks each. Gun­ner Berger sacked the Jay quar­ter­back for a 2-yard loss. Bai­ley Soule’ and Seth Spencer were also in on the plays.

O’Brien, Moor­man and Hunter Cole all picked off Jay passes in the game.

The Lions host the Lin­coln Wolves at 7 p.m. on Fri­day for their first con­fer­ence game of the sea­son.
