Pi­o­neers shut out Bob­cats in home­com­ing vic­tory

GEN­TRY — The Pi­o­neers crowned this year’s home­com­ing cel­e­bra­tions with a 21-7 shutout win over the vis­it­ing Bob­cats from Ber­ryville on Friday night.

Though there were long drives, nei­ther team man­aged to get one across the goal line in the open­ing quar­ter. But the Pi­o­neers scored twice in the sec­ond quar­ter and once in the third for the win.

Jon Faulken­berry car­ried two across the goal line, and he con­nected to Pey­ton Wright for a third. Se­nior kicker Gar­rett Matthews was good on all three pointafter kicks for the Pi­o­neers.

The Pi­o­neers had 237 rush­ing yards in 36 car­ries. They picked up an­other 146 yards through the air with passes re­ceived by Matthews, Myles McFer­ron, Wright and Lo­gan Lin­ton. Wright re­ceived seven passes for 89 yards. Faulken­berry had 135 rush­ing yards, and McFer­ron had 81.

Matthews led in tack­les with 17. Matthew Nance had 16. Ma­son Clark led in solo tack­les with four. He also had six as­sists. Matthews snatched two in­ter­cep­tions in the game.
