Gravette de­feats Har­ri­son, loses two

WEST­SIDE — The Gravette Lions had a busy week with two home games and a road game at Grove, Okla.

First up was a home game at Lion Base­ball Field in Gravette on March 5 against the Bentonville West Wolver­ines.

On the mound for the Lions was Hunter Cole, who pitched four in­nings, throw­ing 75 times, 47 of which were strikes. Cole al­lowed 10 hits, nine runs, five earned runs and had five strike­outs. He was re­placed by Thomas Tryon who pitched 26 times (21 were strikes), al­low­ing two hits while strik­ing out one.

Gravette could not get any­thing go­ing through­out the con­test as the Wolver­ines brought home five runs in the sec­ond in­ning and four in the third. Bentonville West took the game in seven in­nings, 9-0, over the Gravette Lions.

In the Har­ri­son con­test, played March 6 in Gravette, the Lions were able to take a seven-point lead over the Goblins and bring home three runs in the first two in­nings and one in the third. Three runs late in the game by Har­ri­son were not enough and the Gravette Lions took the win, 7-3.

On the mound for that game was Ken­ton Ta­jch­man, who pitched four in­nings, al­low­ing two hits, two runs, four walks and throw­ing six strike­outs. Isaac Sul­li­van came in for Ta­jch­man in the fifth, al­low­ing one run, two hits and throw­ing two strike­outs.

In the fi­nal game of the week, the Lions trav­eled to Grove, Okla., on March 9, to take on the Ridgerun­ners in a non-con­fer­ence game. Gravette got one on the score­board early in the first in­ning to take the early lead. Grove matched with a run of its own in the sec­ond to tie the con­test. The Ridgerun­ners scored two more times in the third, tak­ing over the lead, 3-1. Both the Lions and the Ridgerun­ners scored once more be­fore the con­test ended, with Grove tak­ing the vic­tory over Gravette, 4-2, in seven in­nings.

Jake Carver pitched the en­tire game for the Lions. He al­lowed four hits, four runs and one walk while strik­ing out five. Carver threw 89 pitches.
