Lady Lions take down Lady Ea­gles in close match at home

GRAVETTE — Gravette fans had plenty of rea­son to cel­e­brate Sept. 25 in the gym at Gravette High School when the Lady Lions took down the Lady Ea­gles of Huntsville in a very close match.

As the Lady Lions and Lady Ea­gles took the court for the first set of the match, fans on both sides of the net were in for a wild ride. The set re­mained very tight through­out as nei­ther team al­lowed the other to gain any kind of ad­van­tage. The set stayed within two in the clos­ing stages, with the Lady Ea­gles cap­tur­ing the win, 25-23.

Gravette out­shined Huntsville in the se­cond set, pulling ahead by as much as 10 points. The Lady Ea­gles staged a short-lived run and pulled to within five be­fore the Lady Lions shut the door and se­cured the se­cond set win, 25-20.

The next two sets went back and forth, with both the Lady Lions and Lady Ea­gles play­ing ex­cel­lent heads-up vol­ley­ball. The Lady Ea­gles took the third set, 25-21. The score re­versed for the fourth set, with the Lady Lions tak­ing the win, 25-21, send­ing the match into a tiebreaker.

A se­ries of mis­takes on the Huntsville side of the net landed the Lady Lions con­trol of the tiebreaker and even­tu­ally the set, 157, and the con­fer­ence win, three sets to two.

The Gravette Lady Lions were back in ac­tion Sept. 27 as they trav­eled to Ber­ryville, fac­ing the Lady Bob­cats in an­other con­fer­ence con­test. Though the matches were close, the Lady Lions fell in three straight sets, 25-22, 26-24 and 26-24.
