"The Halibut Fishing Capitol of the World" at the "end of the road” in Homer is where you can take part in the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby. Not simply a trophy fish derby, there are hundreds of tagged fish including the GCI $50,000 tagged fish or the Stanley Ford of Kenai Ford F-150 Tagged Fish. In addition, every fish caught with a tag from the previous 25 years is worth $100 in HOMER BUCKS. The derby runs from May 15 to Sept. 15 and tickets are sold all over town so don't go fishing without one. Find out more at homeralaska.org. Homer isn’t the only Kenai Peninsula port with a famous halibut derby. If you’re taking a sport charter out of Seward in June, don’t forget to buy a ticket for the annual halibut derby. Daily tickets are $10, with a three-day weekender tickets for $25. Daily prizes as well as large cash prizes are awarded at the end of the tournament for the heaviest fish and the second- and third-place entries. The derby runs from June 1-30.
