How did you get into photography, and what’s harder: catching a wave or taking a great photo?
I had an interest in it from a young age, but I really got obsessed with it when I was 17 commercial fishing in Southeast Alaska. It was so incredibly beautiful. I was seeing all these sunrises and sunsets and waterfalls. I really wanted to share it with people. I couldn’t draw, so I had to get a camera. When you’re a beginner surfer, standing up is awesome. When you’re a beginning photographer, any photo is awesome. Ignorance is bliss. They are both difficult to master and I’m a long ways from either one.
