DOYLE’S CAFE

“En­dorsed” by count­less lo­cal politi­cos like Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and former mayor Kevin White, Doyle’s has been op­er­at­ing since 1882 and has quite a his­tory. For one, the neigh­bor­hood saloon was a speakeasy dur­ing Pro­hi­bi­tion, not to men­tion that its in­te­rior bar is orig­i­nal. THE HAWTHORNE

Jack­son Can­non di­rects this ren­dezvous that is a great place to lounge with a craft cock­tail or small bites like fin­ger­ling potato skins and toasted curry pop­corn. HIGH­LAND KITCHEN

High­land Kitchen is Somerville’s res­i­dent hip­ster han­gout. Ac­cord­ingly, chef and owner Mark Ro­mano used to be a drum­mer in a band. On the menu, find ri­cotta and moz­zarella frit­ters with chile-honey dip­ping sauce, the pig and pickle plate of pork ril­lette, con­fit and tasso ham, and the spicy co­conut cur­ried goat stew.
