Musical Notes

Where Charleston - - Where Now -

Musical performances under the stars and in historic cathedrals are festival favorites and good picks for first-timers.

The Wells Fargo Jazz series offers an eclectic lineup of musicians playing in the Cistern Yard, a picturesque courtyard on College of Charleston’s campus. Performers include Grammy and Tony-winning jazz vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Pedrito Martinez Group, a Cuban-jazz group with strong percussions. Female bluegrass band Della Mae also performs in the Cistern Yard. Concerts are at 9 p.m. on select weekend nights.

The Westminster Choir has been performing at Spoleto since the festival’s inception in 1977. The concerts are held at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul on the College of Charleston campus. The catherdral dates to 1815.

The Revivalists headline the Wells Fargo Festival Finale at Middleton Place. Arrive early to stroll the landscaped gardens at Middleton Place, a 17th century plantation on the banks of the Ashley River, and sip on beverages from the beer garden. Stay after the music for a fireworks finale.
